ALT Balaji and ZEE5, after two successful seasons of the homegrown web series Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain, are back with a powerful third edition. Featuring Ronit Roy, Gurdip Punjj and Mona Singh in the central roles, the first five episodes of the show created by Ekta Kapoor released on the OTT platforms this evening.

Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain 3 travels four years ahead from the point where it was left in the second season. Ananya Sharma aka Ana (Mona Singh) has distanced herself from love and ‘moved on’ with her three-year-old son Kabir. However, she has comfort issues with her own son. Unable to forget her past relationship with Rohit Mehra (Ronit), Ana wants to break off all ties with him by filing for divorce. On the other hand, Poonam (Gurdip Punjj) is now leading a content life with her husband Abhimanyu (Sayush Sanjay Nayyar), who is 10 years younger to her.

Rohit is a much-changed person now who is inclined towards lust than love. With no strings attached policy with every new girl, he is a womaniser and an alcoholic. His trust in love, family and relationships has erased and he wants to lead a carefree life on his own terms. However, one fine night, at a night club, he chances upon a singer Amaira (Aditi Vasudev) who ends up reminding him of his past relationship with Ana.

Will Rohit find love the third time in Amaira and make their one-night stand relationship into a serious affair? Will Ana be able to cut herself off from her turbulent past relationship and move on? To know all of these exciting developments, the audience has to watch the engaging third season of Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain.

Directors Abhijit Das and Deepak Chavan have their vision clear in terms of storytelling. They keep each episode short, crisp and engaging. Unlike typical daily soaps, Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain 3 is bold, sharp and progresses at a swift pace. Writer Jaya Misra makes use of fine Urdu short poems that go well with the narrative. Dialogues aren’t heavy on ears and give a much-needed break from preachy stuff. Balancing the characters’ desire for love and lust, the writer does a fine job in understanding the Gen-Y lingo.

Ronit Roy is stellar as always. In his new Kabir Singh-esque avatar, he is badass and not somebody one can easily fall in love with. He paints the screen with a palette of grey, which is indeed refreshing. His eyes do most of the talking and his carefree attitude adds punch. Be it his body language, expressions or swag, Ronit leaves behind his indelible charm but with a toxic twist. Gurdip brightens the screen with her presence. Her smile is what does the magic. As Poonam, she comes across as a strong woman, who is disgusted by her womanizer ex-husband. She is a person who tolerates no injustice. Poonam also discovers her sexuality and embraces the boldness with much ease. Mona Singh stuns as Ananya. Her discomfort with her own son and hesitation to allow her past to overshadow her presence is relatable. Battling her own troubles without any support, she is the strong boss woman who can never let anything go wrong anymore.

Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain 3 is an engaging watch, however, it will be interesting to watch how the story shapes up post the first five episodes. With a tight narrative (roughly 20 mins episodes) that holds the audience attention, the show is a worthy addition to the list of shows the one can watch amid the lockdown, gender no bar.

After all, the battle of love and lust is always tumultuous.
