On September 29, the most significant court hearing in Britney Spears' long legal battle for freedom from conservatorship will take place. After 13 years, her father James Spears filed his petition to terminate the conservatorship. A week before the court hearing, Netflix dropped in the trailer of the singer's documentary, titled Britney Vs Spears. It will debut on the OTT giant exactly a day before the court hearing.
The trailer of Britney Vs Spears starts with the singer's audio recording from the court hearing that took place in June. Addressing the court publicly for the first time, Britney told the judge, "I just want my life back." Sharing an account of her abusive conservatorship, Britney levelled several allegations against her father. In the trailer, Britney's voiceover is heard saying, "I’ve worked my whole life. I don’t owe these people anything."
The 1 minute 28 seconds trailer of Britney Vs Spears includes voiceovers of various people talking about the conservatorship saga. It appears that the documentary will shed more light on the matter by revealing details of a confidential document that was leaked to the makers by an anonymous person close to the family. Also, it is not clear whether anybody close to Britney has participated in the documentary.
Directed by Erin Lee Carr, Britney Vs Spears will focus on the singer's conservatorship, her father’s involvement, problems with the conservatorship laws and the overall justice system. It will stream on Netflix from September 28.
