For the first time ever, Filmfare introduced the maiden edition of OTT awards this year. The ceremony was held on December 19 and honoured web shows and films that brought some riveting narratives and world-class acting. Anushka Sharma and her brother Karnesh Sharma's highly acclaimed web show Paatal Lok took home the maximum number of awards along with Manoj Bajpayee's The Family Man. The series starring Jaideep Ahlawat, Abhishek Banerjee, Neeraj Kabi, Ishwak Singh, Gul Panag, Swastika Mukherjee and many others, received a thumbs-up from critics and audience alike. 

Jaideep, who played the role of a policeman named Hathiram Chaudhary, won the Best Actor in a Drama Series (Male) award. The actor received the trophy on the stage amid endless applauds. Accepting the award, Jaideep remembered his struggle and gushed that it is his first Filmfare award. He went on to thank Paatal Lok's directors Avinash Arun and Prosit Roy, writer Sudip Sharma, Anushka, Karnesh, the cast including Ishwak, Abhishek. Concluding his speech, Jaideep dedicated the award to late Irrfan.

Jaideep shared pictures with the award on Instagram and wrote, "The Black Lady is at home now. I Dedicated this to The One & Only “Irrfan” Sir. Thank you so much #filmfare @filmfare for recognising this. I thank you the entire team of “Paatal Lok” without them it was impossible. Jaideep, whose idol was Irrfan, has time and again spoken about how the late actor inspired him. Irrfan passed away on April 29 due to Neuroendocrine tumour. Talking to an entertainment magazine, Jaideep said, "I received a photo early in the morning, it was a meme. It had Irrfan Saab’s picture on top and a quote that read ‘Pata nahi dharti par acting ka kya ho raha hoga’. And below that is a picture of Hathiram and next to it is a quote from the show (Paatal Lok) ‘Main sambhal lunga bhai’. That was the moment when I felt that I will never receive a bigger compliment than this."
