Exclusive: 'Stories like Baarish 2 are considered unique now,' says Sharman Joshi on the simplicity and sweetness of the web series

Sharman Joshi can be easily classified as a man of multiple talents. Be it comedy or thrillers, he has pulled off unconventional roles in films with ease. Now, as people in India are confined to their homes due to the nationwide Coronavirus lockdown, Sharman is back on the OTT platform with the second season of the web show Baarish. Commissioned by ALT Balaji and ZEE5, Baarish 2 is streaming on the platforms since last evening.

As the audience is captivated by Baarish 2, Sharman got in an exclusive conversation with PeepingMoon.com. The actor candidly spoke about working with veteran actor Jeetendra and what does true love mean for him.

Excerpts from the interview:

After the successful first season of Baarish, how it is coming back home to ALT Balaji?

After having a great experience, the first time, it is always wonderful. On the sets, we had a good time and it was fun working on the content too.

Veteran actor Jeetendra is making his digital debut with Baarish 2. How was it shooting with him?

It was an absolute honour. I was so keen and excited to get started. On the first day, he was happy to be on the sets and would also poke fun at himself too. Even when he wasn’t needed, he preferred staying back with us and spend time recalling his days. He would also tell us interesting anecdotes.

How was it working with Asha Negi yet again?

It was lovely. I am looking forward to working with her again.

OTT platform has become a place for showing kissing scenes and sex exploits, Baarish also has a lip-lock scene, was it needed in the simple love story?

Such sequences aren’t new now. Every other Hindi film has one. It is a way of expressing love. The characters of Baarish express love for the first time. The entire first season, they were only holding hands and touching shoulders. This season they consummate their marriage. It is just one or two occasions where they are kissing and it overall remains very simple.

After romance, is there any genre you are craving to explore?

As an actor, I am willing to do all kinds of genres. Whenever the right script and opportunity arrives my way, I’ll take it.

How similar or different are you from Anuj?

I am different from all the characters I have played. I bring in a certain aspect of my personality in the roles I portray. But that’s not completely who I am. I am an introvert and don’t like to discuss my personal life in the open.

Do you believe in true love?

Absolutely. Love at first sight also. Who will not enjoy the sheer pleasure of love? You have to experience it to know it. The dynamics of the institution keeps changing. It won’t be the same five years after marriage or knowing each other. Love changes, it matures and that’s the beauty of it.

Do you feel that amid the lockdown, people will respond better to your show than the first season?

That’s what we all hope so that the third season is commissioned and I get to work with Jeetendra sir.

In the times when web series deal with whacky concepts, your show is pure and simple. Is this the reason behind signing it?

The concept, as well as the desire to work with Ekta Kapoor, attracted me to sign it. There were no manipulations. Once I got into the show, I realized how simple it is. This concept was trending 5-10 years ago. It is a clutter-breaker. Now, on OTT platforms, we get to see thrillers, action, etc and then comes a Baarish which is a simple, sweet family drama. Such genres and stories are considered unique now.
