However, the filmmaker entered into a never-explored-before zone of the horror genre with Netflix' anthology titled Ghost Stories. Karan who has always stayed away from horror content, during an interview with a leading daily, told after attempting the same once, he will never touch it again. The ace filmmaker said that the genre isn't something that he enjoys watching and making.

Talking about the challenges that he faced while working on Ghost Stories, Karan said every filmmaker should step out of the comfort zone and be uncomfortable while telling a story as that puts their directorial spirit to test. He further added that the horror anthology was the most challenging schedule of his career. "I felt like this gives me the ability to be out of my comfort zone and tell a story being uncomfortable. I think every filmmaker should be, at one point, uncomfortable to tell a story because that challenges their core directorial spirit. So, making this horror anthology has been the most challenging schedule in my 21-year-long journey," Karan added.

Ghost Stories, apart from Karan, was directed by Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee. It starred Janhvi Kapoor, Mrunal Thakur, Sobhita Dhulipala, Gulshan Devaiah, Surekha Sikri, Avinash Tiwary, Vijay Varma and Sukant Goel. The anthology is streaming on Netflix since January 1, 2020.
