Is Pankaj Tripathi's character of 'Guruji' in Sacred Games 2 inspired by controversial godman Osho Rajneesh?

The trailer of the much-awaited second season of Sacred Games came out recently and it promises a new trail of friendship, betrayal, crime, passion, and a thrilling chase through Mumbai's underbelly. Sacred Games 2, which is slated to stream on Netflix from August 15, picks up from Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan) pursuing his relentless battle of saving the city and Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) facing bigger challenges to retain his position as the legendary kingpin of Mumbai. The intriguing Guruji (Pankaj Tripathi), introduced in season one as Gaitonde's 'third father', plays a pivotal role in unfolding a chain of events that shape the next season. Interestingly, we now hear that Pankaj's character in Sacred Games 2 has been loosely modelled on controversial godman Osho Rajneesh.

"Pankaj Tripathi's styling is almost similar to Osho Rajneesh, whose so-called religious movement was at its peak in the '80s. In terms of the writing too, Guruji's character seems to be woven like the cult figure," a leading daily quoted a source close to the actor as saying. Not to forget, the life of Osho Rajneesh has earlier been the subject of Netflix's popular documentary, Wild Wild Country. For those caught unaware, Acharya Rajneesh, who later was known as Bhagwan Acharya Rajneesh and Osho, had risen to prominence in the late '70s and early '80s as the leader of Rajneesh movement. He even relocated to the United States, only to be banned later by several countries following a litany of crimes by his followers.
