Contrary to the perception that he is among Bollywood’s most powerful people, filmmaker Karan Johar told Peeping Moon in a podcast by Mark Manuel that this was a misconception. In a candid chat on ‘BenchMARK Conversations’ that is presented by Reliance Digital, KJo told Peeping Moon, “What power? I am still begging for dates from actors, I am still negotiating the remunerations of my cast, I am still firefighting schedules versus weather, I am still trying to make sure my film gets sold to the right platform, I am still going through every problem today that other producers are combating!”
According to Karan, Dharma Productions – whose last release was the Christmas romantic comedy ‘Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Mere’ that the box-office rejected – has “enough and more superstars saying no to its films and with good reason many a time”. KJo said, “If they didn’t like a film – they didn’t do it! The misconception is the words ‘movie mafia’ or ‘power’ or ‘flag bearer of nepotism’ attached. I am nothing. I am here as a worker. The perception is a misconception. And if perception can be bought today, how can it be a reality?”
