Suriya's Soorarai Pottru becomes third-highest rated film on IMDb; The Shawshank Redemption and The Godfather lead the list

Suriya's Tamil-language film, Soorarai Pottru, took the digital route amid the COVID-19 pandemic and released on Amazon Prime Video on November 12, 2020. The Sudha Kongara directorial proved that the OTT platform isn't used to dump mediocre or poor films. The film based on the life of Captain Gopinath impressed the critics and audience alike. Adding another feather to its cap, Soorarai Pottru has featured in IMDb's list of top 1000 films.

Suriya's film has got 9.1 ratings on IMDb. The top position has been secured by The Shawshank Redemption with 9.3 ratings while The Godfather is on the second position with 9.2 ratings. Apart from Soorarai Pottru, Indian films like Vikram VedhaDangal3 IdiotsChhichhore, Tumbbad and Drishyam are in the top 100 films.

Soorarai Pottru was the only Indian film amongst 366 films eligible for Best Picture in the Academy Awards. Unfortunately, the film missed out on getting a nomination. Soorarai Pottru has been selected for the 24th Shanghai International Film Festival, which is scheduled to happen from June 12-15, 2021. 

Soorarai Pottru also starred Paresh Rawal, Urvashi, Mohan Babu and Aparna Balamurali. The film was bankrolled by Suriya and Guneet Monga under the 2D Entertainment and Sikhya Entertainment banners.
