Storyline
The film revolves around Ramakant (Rajkummar Rao), an excessively stingy individual who is utterly rigid when it comes to financial matters. At his wife's (Sanya Malhotra) behest, he purchases a toaster to give as a wedding gift; however, this seemingly small decision soon turns into an obsession for him. As the narrative unfolds, relationships begin to fray and circumstances shift, yet Ramkant's focus remains singularly fixed on retrieving that toaster. This very stubbornness gives rise to a series of comical and bizarre situations, wherein a simple object serves to expose the nuances of human nature, specifically greed. The film presents this unique premise through a blend of lighthearted and quirky humor.
Acting
Rajkummar Rao appears to be right in his comfort zone, and his comic timing is spot-on. His inherent 'penny-pinching’ never comes across as irritating; instead, it proves to be thoroughly entertaining. Sanya Malhotra, on the other hand, maintains her composure and delivers a grounded performance amidst the chaos. The supporting cast, particularly the comic actor, elevates several scenes and lends the film the strength of a true ensemble piece.
Direction
Vivek Daschaudary's direction successfully captures the film's quirky tone. Transforming a simple premise into a blend of absurdity and dark humor is no easy feat, yet the film manages to maintain this delicate balance to a significant extent. Although the pacing may feel uneven in a few spots, the overall vision remains clear: pure entertainment without the need for overthinking.
Dialogues
The dialogues are rooted in situational humor, and in many instances, the punchlines genuinely elicit laughter. Notably, the humor never feels forced; rather, it emerges organically from the distinct personalities of the characters. While a few one-liners are memorable, the consistency of the screenplay does fluctuate slightly.
Music
The background score effectively complements the film's chaotic and unpredictable mood. The songs are not particularly prominent, but the tracks that have been utilised do not disrupt the narrative flow.
Overall
Can be a perfect weekend binge for entertainment.
