Storyline
The story begins in Baramulla with the mysterious disappearance of a former MLA’s young son. To investigate, DSP Ridwan Syed Shafi (Manav Kaul) arrives in the town with his wife Gulnaar (Bhasha Sumbli), daughter Noorie (Arista Mehta), and son Ayaan (Rohan Singh). Just as Ridwan starts probing the case, several more schoolchildren vanish in broad daylight. Meanwhile, strange shadows and eerie sounds begin to haunt Gulnaar and the children in their new home — something Ridwan refuses to believe. As the investigation deepens, we learn about a painful incident from Ridwan’s past that has strained his bond with his daughter. What are these mysterious shadows? And how are they connected to the missing children? The answers unfold through the film’s haunting and emotional narrative.
Acting
The performances are grounded and natural throughout. Manav Kaul leads the film with quiet intensity, bringing depth to Ridwan’s conflicted persona. Bhasha Sumbli adds emotional weight, while the child actors deliver sincere, believable performances.
Direction
Director and co-writer Aditya Suhas Jambhale takes his time to establish the atmosphere of Baramulla and the unsettling occurrences within Ridwan’s home. The screenplay may feel complex initially, but as the mystery of the shadows unravels, past and present connect beautifully —leaving viewers both surprised and moved.
Music
The music perfectly complements the film’s tone, heightening both the suspense and the emotional depth. It never overpowers the narrative but enhances its overall impact. Siddhant Kaushal, who has penned the album, deserves special mention for his fine work.
Overall
Baramulla stands out for those who enjoy layered, thought-provoking cinema. It doesn’t spoon-feed its audience — miss a moment, and you might lose a thread. But if you stay attentive, the film rewards you with an intriguing, atmospheric, and emotionally rich experience.
