Jatadhara Movie Review: Sudheer Babu’s effort shines in a half-baked supernatural drama

Film: Jatadhara
Cast: Sudheer Babu Posani, Sonakshi Sinha, Shilpa Shirodkar, Divya Khossla, Indira Krishnan, Subhalekha Sudhakar
Director: Venkat Kalyan
Rating: 2.5 Moons

Storyline

The story follows Shiva (Sudheer Babu), a ghost hunter who ironically doesn’t believe in ghosts or spirits but keeps searching for them. Every night, he sees a strange recurring dream linked to his childhood. Meanwhile, there’s a mysterious village where anyone who tries to find a hidden golden urn meets a tragic end. Rumour has it that a buried treasure lies there, guarded by Dhan Pishachini (Sonakshi Sinha). Will Shiva reach that cursed village? And if he does, can he defeat the powerful Dhan Pishachini? The answers unfold through the film’s supernatural narrative.

Acting
Sudheer Babu puts in solid effort and carries the film with conviction. Divya Khosla, however, is hard to watch, her expressions and dialogue delivery miss the mark. Sonakshi Sinha as Dhan Pishachini has a few good moments but often feels over the top. Shilpa Shirodkar is effective yet underused, while Subhalekha Sudhakar shines the most among the supporting cast.

Direction
Venkat Kalyan handles the supernatural theme decently, with a few gripping moments and visual appeal. However, the storytelling lacks consistency. The buildup holds promise, but the emotional connect and tension fade before the climax, which could have been far stronger.

Dialogues
For a supernatural drama, the dialogues are disappointingly weak. They neither heighten suspense nor add weight to the story. Flat writing and unconvincing delivery make the film lose its intended impact.

Music
Music is one of ‘Jatadhara’s’ better aspects. The recreation of ‘Pallo Latke’ and the haunting ‘Dhana Pisaachi’ track add life to the otherwise uneven narrative. Sonakshi’s dance number is visually pleasing and offers a brief high.

Overall
Watch it only if you’re fond of supernatural dramas/ horror. Otherwise, it’s skippable.
