storyline

Haq is a powerful courtroom drama inspired by the landmark 1985 Shah Bano case and the Supreme Court judgment that reshaped women’s rights in India. The film follows Shazia Bano (Yami Gautam), who takes her husband Abbas (Emraan Hashmi) to court after he abandons her and their children for a second marriage. What begins as a personal fight soon transforms into a historic legal battle that challenges societal norms and ignites a nationwide debate on justice and gender equality. The film is produced by Junglee Pictures in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios.

Acting
Yami Gautam is undoubtedly one of the best actresses in the country right now, and in ‘Haq’, she once again proves why she is so admired. The depth and truth with which she portrays Shazia Bano is heartwarming — it is as if Shah Bano herself has come alive on screen. Emraan Hashmi plays his character with a masterful anti-heroic flair, he doesn't portray a traditional villain, but rather showcases the inner conflict within a person. Vartika Singh's debut is impressive, while actors like Sheeba Chaddha, Asim Hattangadi, and Danish Hussain further strengthen the film.

Direction
After ‘Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai’ Suparn Verma once again demonstrates his mastery of courtroom dramas. He presents a highly sensitive and historical subject with complete honesty, sensitivity, and balance. Suparn has a keen sense of where to amplify emotions and where to restrain them, and this becomes the film's greatest strength.

Dialogues
The true essence of a courtroom drama lies in its dialogues, and ‘Haq’ fully meets this criterion. Many dialogues in the film will give you goosebumps. These are words that will resonate with you even after the film ends and force you to think.

Music
The film's music, though limited, is effective. ‘Qubool Hai’ has already become a hit and the other tracks also beautifully support the film's mood. This album is one of songs you'll want to listen to again and again.

Overall
'Haq' is not just a film, but a powerful statement that shows how one woman's courage and a court decision can change the lives of millions of women. It will make you think, feel, and perhaps even change a little.
