The long and unexpected year 2020 is finally coming to an end but what kept us sane this year was few songs that worked like a charm for us. Mere Liye Tum Kaafi Ho Song

Sung by Ayushmann Khurrana, the song Mere Liye Tum Kaafi Ho from the film Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan was widely loved by everyone for its romantic lyrics. It became the perfect romantic song for all the lovebirds out there. This song garnered more than 45 million views on YouTube and went on the become the most soothing song of 2020. Composed by Tanishk - Vayu, the song majorly received love for Ayushmann's warm voice and his music video. 

Genda Phool

Rapper Badshah’s Genda Phool starring Jacqueline Fernandez was the most-watched music video of the year and gave a tough competition to YouTuber Ajay Nagar, popularly known as CarryMinati's most-watched video. With over 691 million views, Sneha Shetty's first directorial Genda Phool was released at the beginning of the lockdown and instantly became a super hit with several people making Bengali transition videos on it. Even though Badshah found himself in the middle of a plagiarism controversy by famous Bengali composer Ratan Kahar, the song was a sure shot hit. Not only this but Genda Phool also became the 3rd fastest Indian music video to cross 100 million views on YouTube. 

Kalla Sona Ni

Bigg Boss 13 contestants and real-life couple Asim Riaz and Himanshi Khurana broke records as they starred in their first music video together back in April. Titled Kalla Sohna Nai, their first-ever song together received more love than one expected. The song is sung by Neha Kakkar and the music is by Rajat Nagpal, so that is an add-on for the already hit song. The song received over 143 Million Views and made it to the list of top singles of 2020. After which, Asim and Himanshi starred in 3 other songs together. 

Mirchi

Divine has a different fan base, altogether. Be it his sassy raps or savage one-liners, Divine's audience is the most honest and trustworthy when it comes to his creations. Mirchi was definitely one of the most played songs of 2020. You open Instagram and you will have a plethora of people dancing to the tunes of this peppy number. A lively hit by rapper Divine, the song featured Stylo G, MC Altaf and Phenom. It became one of the most loved tracks of 2020. The song answers the age-old question - how far will someone go for love? With over 108 million views, Mirchi still continues to trend across all social media platforms. 

Aabaad Barbaad

Aabaad Barbaad came along as the underdog of all Hindi songs. It released unexpectedly and created a buzz within a few days of its release. Aabaad Barbaad is a song from Ludo and features the entire cast of the film - Abhishek Bachchan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf, Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra, Pearle Maaney, Inayat Verma, Asha Negi, and Shalini Vats. It shows the intricacies of each of their stories and how all the lead stars try to overcome it. Sung by Arijit Singh, it received quite a positive reaction from fans for mushiness. It garnered over 28 million views on YouTube and also became the hot song for several romantic Instagram Reels. 

Nehu Da Vyah

Ahead of their wedding on October 26, Neha Kakkar and Rohanpreet Singh released their much-awaited song Nehu Da Vyah. Written and composed by Neha herself, the song had already garnered love because of Neha's and Rohanpreet's sudden wedding. The song came as a treat to the fans of the couple. Just like many Punjabi songs of Neha, Nehu Da Vyah also had soothing music and beautiful lyrics. It received more than 93 million views on YouTube. What also worked in the favour of the song was its lyrics that was quite relatable for every newlywed out there. The track was also recorded as the number 1 song on which maximum Instagram reels were made in 2020. 

Burj Khalifa

Akshay Kumar’s and Kiara Advani's song Burj Khalifa from their film Laxmii was an instant hit. Being promoted as the biggest dance track of the year, Burj Khalifa is a Punjabi upbeat track. It is sung and composed by Shashi and Dj Khushi. The lyrics were penned by Gagan Ahuja. To make the song popular among youngsters, the lyricist has given many pop-culture references, including a mention of Kylie Jenner. Akshay looked his quirky best in the song, while Kiara Advani looked sizzling hot. It received over 174 million views on YouTube and also made it to its list of top 10 songs of the year. 

Care Ni Karda

Nushrratt Bharuccha and Rajkummar Rao got us all humming to the tunes of their adorable song - Care Ni Karda from their film Chhalaang. Sung by Sweetaj Brar and Yo Yo Honey Singh, Care Ni Karda was a Diwali treat for fans. It became the top song for content creators to make dance videos and reels on and garnered over 128 million views on YouTube. 

Shona Shona

No pair can beat the crazy fan following of Bigg Boss 13's most loved duo - Sidharth Shukla and Shehnaaz Gill. Their second song together, Shona Shona released earlier this month and ended the year with a bang. Sung by Tony Kakkar and Neha Kakkar, the lyrics are penned by Tony and stars Sidharth and Shehnaaz as lovebirds. With catchy tunes and unmissable music video, the song crossed 66 million views in a short span of time. 

Scam 1992 title track

Achint Thakkar's theme music song of Pratik Gandhi's web show Scam 1992 became the hot topic of the town as soon as the show released. The song created the right hype and everyone loved it. Harshad Mehta's Scam 1992 became the number one hit web series of 2020 and not only the series was superhit but also its theme music is much loved by the fans. The song was released on YouTube much later and garnered over 5 million views but the number of reels made on the tune remains unbeatable.  

ALBUMS

Street Dancer 3D

Varun Dhawan's, Shraddha Kapoor's and Nora Fatehi's Street Dancer 3D received appreciation not only for its dance numbers but music album as well. It went on to become a superhit album in the true sense. An extensive and solid 12 song soundtrack where each song was fitting to the story and genre of the movie while independently being good songs to listen to added extra marks to this album. Kudos to director Remo D’Souza for handpicking each song across various composers and artists. The variety in this album was staggering with most genres covered from dance to romantic to emotional and patriotic ones. Sachin-Jigar are the real star of this album with their originals and some remakes being all well arranged. Mile Sur, Nachi Nachi, Dua Karo were brilliant songs by them while Badshah smashed it with his number Garmi becoming the song of the season. Tanishk Bagchi impressed with the remakes Muqabla and Illegal Weapon 2.0. Gurinder Seagal’s Pind is by far one of the most soothing numbers on the album while Harsh Upadhyay’s Hindustani remake is worth a listen. Street Dancer 3D album impressed the audience and music enthusiasts likewise. 

Malang

Mohit Suri is known to deliver great music with his projects and Aditya Roy Kapur's, Disha Patani's and Anil Kapoor's Malang was no different. Doing a mix of picked up songs by artists Mithoon, Ankit Tiwari, Ved Sharma and Asim Azhar, the director gave the album a great list of songs. The film impressed with 5 songs including Humraah, Chal Ghar Chalen, Hui Malang, Ho Ja Mast Malang Tu and Phir Na Milen Kabhi. There is something good about every song on this soundtrack and thus, it truly deserves to be in the top albums of 2020.

Love Aaj Kal

One can trust Irshad Kamil and Pritam to deliver something spectacular almost every time, especially when it comes to romantic music! Going with the script, Kartik Aaryan's and Sara Ali Khan's Love Aaj Kal album needed to be cool, modern and contemporary. Shayad and Rahogi Meri were two easy romantic favourites this year in the voice of Arijit Singh. Kamil’s lyrics are simply so smooth on these making them easy for Singh to deliver his magic on. The reprise versions are equally good and musically note-perfect. Haan Main Galat is by far the coolest remake in recent years! It is almost completely original but with a tinge of familiarity of the original that is so hard to balance making it a great dance number. Haan Tum Ho is another genius romantic number by Singh and Shilpa Rao with melodic nuances that are great to listen to while Meharama is the sad romantic that has a great amount of musical ambiance and lyrical depth that touches the heart easily. Darshan Raval and Antara Mitra are sensational on this song! It's great to hear Mohit Chauhan recreate Yeh Dooriyan on this soundtrack with a modern take on it while KK is great but on an average song Aur Tanha. Overall there is everything one hopes for in the album of Love Aaj Kal.

Dil Bechara

Dil Bechara album had everyone teary eyes this year. It was the last film of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput and it was perhaps in the most capable hands in the industry - AR Rahman. The music material was good throughout in this album and Sushant's and Sanjana Sanghi's chemistry was an add-on. The title song Dil Bechara, its remake Friendzone, Afreeda, Taare Gin, Khulke Jeene Ka and The Horizone of Saudade were all worth a listen. Overall the soundtrack of Dil Bechara had a piece of consistent music with lots of genre variety that made it one of the best albums of 2020. 

Mirzapur 2

It has been more than two months since Mirzapur season 2 launched but fans cannot stop talking about the outstanding soundtrack the series has. Curated by a team of accomplished artists, the jukebox of Mirzapur 2 highly proved the wonders of OTT platforms in music as well. With songs like Mirzapur theme track, Munna Rap, Ting Tong, Bhaukal Mix and Sab Ho Jaane De, Mirzapur came as a gamechanger in the web music world and there are no two ways about it.
