This 2020, the global outbreak of COVID-19 suddenly locked us in our homes with not much to do. Quarantine and social distancing were the trending words in everyone’s dictionary and people started to catch up with their long lost hobbies. Although, however ‘chilled’ it sounds, social distancing or staying alone can take a toll on one’s health more than we know. Be it due to mass unemployment, lack of facilities or the fear of catching the virus, many people were mentally affected due to the lockdown situation.
Thanks to the easily accessible internet, we all managed to stay together yet apart. The country joined hands in doing a series of challenges and our tinsel town wasn’t left behind either. From the comfort of their homes, the Bollywood brigade took part in some fun challenges, tried their hands on baking, ‘phetoed’ the Dalgona coffee and dressed up in pillows for the sake of entertaining their fans. Truly, we were all in this together.
So, as 2020 finally comes to an end with more than half of it spent in lockdown, here are few raging social media trends tried and tested by our celebrities to entertain us all year long.
DALGONA COFFEE
Hands down this was the biggest trend to take over social media back in summer. This super simple recipe in nature appealed to the masses and in no time people were ready with coffee, sugar, milk and a spoon!
Joining the masses were actors Neil Nitin Mukesh, Shoiab Ibrahim-Deepika Kakkar and Gurmeet Singh-Debina Bonerjee who made this cuppa coffee for their spouses.
SAFE HANDS CHALLENGE

In order to spread awareness and encourage their fans to follow safe practices, Many B-town celebrities like Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Deepika Padukone, amongst others shared a video of them washing their hands for 20 seconds thoroughly.
To keep the awareness as well as the trend going on, they tagged other tinsel townies to take the #SafeHandsChallenge.
FACE TIME PHOTOSHOOTS
Quarantine or not the sho-ot must go on! As their next lockdown challenge, tinsel townies like Ananya Panday, Athiya Shetty, Palak Tiwari and Dandekar siblings Anusha and Shibani posed for their front camera while their BFF photographers clicked them in the comfort of their respective houses.
PILLOW DRESSES
After posing in sarees, celebs and netizens rolled right outta bed with pillow dresses as their next quarantine couture challenge. Choosing comfort over style, quite literally, actresses like Tamannaah Bhatia, and Debina Bonerjee wrapped pillows around their bodies as dresses and cinched the entire ensemble with chunky belts. Furthermore, they accessorized it with purses, bags, shoes and statement jewelry.
#CHALLENGEACCEPTED
Continuing the spirit of ‘women lifting women’ ladies on social media had been encouraging each other to post a black and white picture of themselves with the caption, “Too often, women find it easier to criticise each other instead of building each other up.
With all the negativity out there, let’s do something positive!” Actresses like Anushka Sharma, Ananya Panday, Tara Sutaria, Bhumi Pednekar, Sara Ali Khan, Katrina Kaif amongst many others joined the bandwagon and posted stunning monochrome pictures of themselves
OF GIBBERISH AND HAND EMOJIS
With an intention to tackle boredom and have fun, many B-town celebs took it to their Instagram to solve some quirky gibberish and ace the hand as well as cute emojis challenge.
Actors like Alia Bhatt along with her girlfriends and actress Aakansha Ranjan Kapoor and Anushka Ranjan, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja along with husband Anand Ahuja, Kriti Sanon, Kartik Aaryan and many others took part in this raging lockdown challenge.
FACE MASKS AND SELF CARE
The ongoing pandemic surely served as a ‘time-off’ for Bollywood, as we saw our favorite celebrities chill in their cozy PJ’s and pamper their skin with face-masks. Veeres Sonam and Kareena Kapoor Khan, Deepika Padukone, Alaya F, resorted to skincare with their serum sheets and DIY face masks, encouraging us too. No excuses for skincare, isn’t that right ladies?
KAFTANS
Ditching dressy dresses for kaftans, our Bollywood brigade opted for comfy couture this quarantine. Being one of the trendsetters of Bollywood, Bebo Kareena Kapoor Khan started her ‘kaftan series’ where she flaunted her favorite summer essential in varied prints and colours. Although Bebo might have not chosen the kaftan life, there are some divas who did. Veere Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, BFF Malaika Arora, actress Dia Mirza and Neha Dhupia joined the kaftan club and inspired many to do so!
WORKOUT FROM HOME
Owing to public safety, many educational institutions, workplaces, theatres, and gyms were shut down from March 2020. In the wake of recent events, many B-town celebs have taken their gym home and shared their workout routines on social media.
Katrina Kaif, Mandira Bedi, Jacqueline Fernadez, Milind Soman,and others showed some simple exercises that could be done from home with minimal equipment.
BAKING
Many of the B-townies added culinary skills to their resume and impressed us with their banana bread and a wholesome three-course meal.
Deepika Padukone, Masaba Gupta, Bhumi Pednekar, Malaika Arora, Vicky Kaushal, Arjun Kapoor, and others left us drooling with her cooking skills.
HAIRCUTS
With beauty parlours shut and personal stylists unable to come to work, the nationwide lockdown turned our stars into hairstylists for their partners and family members. And they seemed to do the job quite efficiently!
Rajkummar Rao, Anushka Sharma, Nupur Sanon, Kangana Ranaut, Preity Zinta gave haircuts to their beaus, better halves and siblings and set some major hairdresser goals!
