Tom Cruise to become the first actor to shoot a film in outer space, all set to do the spacewalk in his next action flick

Tom Cruise is once again going to do the unthinkable and impossible. He could literally become the first civilian to perform a spacewalk and shoot his next film in space. The shoot requires him to hang off a space station (for which the International Space Station will be availed of) as it orbits the Earth at an altitude of 254 miles (408 kilometres), as per a recent interview given by Donna Langley, Universal Pictures’ head. Langley teased during the interview that they are in the process of contemplating the shoot in new action film helmed by director Doug Liman. The film has a whopping budget as it requires Cruise to shoot scenes on the ISS.

During the interview to a news channel, Langley said, “Tom Cruise is taking us to space. He’s taking the world into space. That’s the plan. We have a great project in development with Tom, that does contemplate him doing just that. Taking a rocket up to the space station and shooting and hopefully being the first civilian to do a spacewalk outside of the space station.”

Doug Liman, the director of the film, and Tom Cruise, had pitched the idea of the film to Langley in 2020. At that time it was reported that Cruise will be flying to the International Space Station (ISS) in October 2021 aboard a SpaceX ship. He was supposed to go into space with NASA astronaut Michael Lopez-Alegria along with Liman.

Reportedly, Cruise will play the role of an unlucky guy who will be tasked with the humongous work of saving the Earth. The team is working with NASA and Elon Musk’s SpaceX company for a smooth shooting. Universal Pictures could very well become the first Hollywood studio to shoot a film in space.
