SS Rajamouli’s RRR eyes probable Oscar 2023 nominations, makers submit Jr NTR, Ram Charan's film in all 14 categories

SS Rajamouli’s RRR featuring Jr.NTR and Ram Charan in the lead is one of the biggest hits of the year as well as of the filmmaker in his illustrious career. Although the film is one of the best works that has come out from the Indian film industry this year it was not chosen India’s official entry to the Oscars 2023 much to the dismay of countless fans who were rooting for RRR. However, the hope for an Oscar nomination is still alive as the makers are pushing RRR in 14 categories under 'For your consideration (FYC)’ campaign.

RRR has been submitted for Best Motion Picture, Best Director (SS Rajamouli), Best Actor (Jr NTR and Ram Charan), Best Supporting Actor and Actress (Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt). Naatu Naatu has been submitted for Best Original Song, while MM Keeravani's name has been nominated by the makers for Best Original Score. The film will also have a go at Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Sound, Best Film Editing and Best Makeup & Hairstyling.

The makers of RRR will campaign for the Oscars 2023 independently and joining the FYC campaign is their first shot at clinching a nomination. Prior to this, a leading online portal had included Ram Charan and Jr.NTR’s name in its probable Oscar nominations list for Best Actor.

India’s official entry for the Oscars is Chello Show, a Gujarati film directed by Pan Nalin and produced by foreign production house. It is presented by Siddharth Roy Kapur’s Roy Kapur Films. FWICE raised an objection on the film’s selection saying that it was a foreign film and should not be considered Indian; at the same time fans raised a big hue-and-cry over RRR being snubbed. Last year, Suriya's Soorarai Pottru was selected to be featured in the Academy Streaming Room.
