Oppenheimer first poster: Cillian Murphy stars as the father of the atomic bomb in Christopher Nolan’s film; Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr provide voice-overs in teaser released in theatres

The official first teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is debuting exclusively in theatres attached to Jordan Peele’s Nope. The film’s first look poster was also released online on Thursday and shows Cillian Murphy’s figure silhouetted against a huge ball of fire and smoke in the background along with the tagline ‘The World Forever Changes’. Oppenheimer stars Cillian Murphy as theoretical physicist J Robert Oppenheimer, the director of the Manhattan Project and the “father of the atomic bomb.”

Emily Blunt says in the teaser as Oppenheimer’s wife, Katherine, “The world is changing, reforming. This is your moment.” A countdown appears on screen, “11 months, 24 days, 15 hours, 29 minutes,” as the film’s tagline reads on the poster and in the teaser. Robert Downey Jr’s character is heard in the teaser as he says referring to Oppenheimer, “The man who moved the earth,” followed by footage of smoke and fire and shots of Murphy in the foreground.

Nolan’s film boasts of a stellar star cast. Joining Murphy, Blunt and Downey Jr. are Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, David Krumholtz, Michael Angarano and Kenneth Branagh. This is the first time Murphy is playing the lead character in Nolan’s film after collaborating with him on Batman Begins, Inception, Dunkirk and more.

Oppenheimer is all set to release in theatres on July 21, 2023.
