Biopic on Amy Winehouse in the works at Halcyon Studios, to be based on Daphne Barak’s book ‘Saving Amy’

A biopic on singer Amy Winehouse is underway at Halcyon Studios. The film is based on the life of Winehouse after it optioned Daphne Barak’s 2010 book Saving Amy. The book is based on six months of filming and comprise of 40 hours of footage, exclusive photos and notes that the author completed with Winehouse and her family in the last three years of her life.

Winehouse breathed her last in July 2011 at the age of 27 due to alcohol poisoning. She became a member of the infamous ‘The 27 Club’ which comprises of notable musicians who all died at the age of 27. Janice Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and Brian Jones inadvertently founded it in the 1970s when they all passed away one after other within a short span of time at the same age.

Winehouse was an extremely popular artiste but her personal life was marred with drug and alcohol use and an abusive relationship with her boyfriend-turned-husband Blake Fielder-Civil.

Halcyon Studio CEO David Ellender said in a statement, “Our team is honored to be working on this project. Although her career was cut far too short, Amy was the voice of a generation and we look forward to telling her story in the most poignant way possible.” The film will be executive produced by Barak. The cast for the film has not been announced yet.
