The first look of Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon ft. Leonardo DiCaprio & Lily Gladstone is OUT!

Apple Original Films revealed an exclusive first look from Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated western Killers of the Flower Moon. The picture depicts Leonardo DiCaprio as Ernest Burkhart, a white man and Lily Gladstone as Mollie Burkhart, an Osage woman who falls in love with Ernest. The scene takes place in Grayhorse, Oklahoma in 1918 and is early in their relationship after Mollie invites him for a meal and they form a bond.

Leonardo seems unrecognizable as Ernest and shows off a non-glamorous, plain look. The couple’s relationship forms the backdrop for Killers of the Flower Moon which is based on David Grann’s bestselling novel of the same name. The nonfiction work chronicles the Osage Nation murders, in which Native Americans in 1920s Oklahoma were massacred after oil was discovered on their land. The brutal crimes came to be known as the Reign of Terror.

The first look shows, Gladstone dressed in traditional Osage clothing, wrapped in a Pendleton blanket, wearing a black choler, two silver brooches and her long black hair loosely tied back. The photo shows her looking fondly at Leonardo while he is looking elsewhere, maybe a telling photo of their doomed relationship. Notably, Gladstone herself is Native American, and grew up on the Blackfeet reservation in Montana.

The film also stars Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, Cara Jade Myers, Janae Collins, Jillian Dion, William Belleau, Jason Isbell, Louis Cancelmi, Scott Shepherd, Sturgill Simpson and many others. Killers of the Flower Moon is slated for theatrical release by Paramount with funding from Apple, it does not have a theatrical release date in place yet.
