This year's virtual Emmy Awards 2020 witnessed numerous surprises. Zendaya made history on Sunday by becoming the youngest ever best actress in a drama series winner. The actress won an award for Euphoria. Zendaya, 24, defeated Jodie Comer, who won last year at the age of 26, to become the youngest name in the category. In Euphoria, Zendaya who shot to fame as a Disney channel star, played the role of Rue, a high school girl trying to recover from drug addiction.
Zendaya, for the ceremony, was joined by her family members and team. Amid loud cheers, Zendaya tried hard to hold back her tears. Breathless as she spoke, the 24-year-old thanked TV Academy, HBO, production company A24, creator Sam Levinson and the other women in her category. Talking about the pandemic in her acceptance speech, she said, "This feels like a really weird time to be celebrating. There is hope in the young people out there…to all my peers out there doing the work, I see you I admire you….thank you"
