COVID-19 pandemic effect: Golden Globes 2021 postponed by nearly 2 months, to take place on February 28

The first Sunday of the new year marks the beginning of the official awards season in Hollywood with the prestigious Golden Globes. Held at Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, the ceremony is awaited with bated breath. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Golden Globes will not be held in January but has been pushed forward to February. The delay was announced by the organisers- Hollywood Foreign Press Association on Monday. Confirming that the ceremony will now take place on February 28, 2021, HFPA told a leading publication that further details regarding eligibility, etc will be issued in the coming weeks. 

"To accommodate both domestic and international film and television productions, the HFPA will provide further guidance around eligibility, voting period and revised nominations announcement timing in the coming weeks," HFPA told.

The announcement of Golden Globes being pushed forward due to COVID-19 pandemic came a week after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences confirmed that the 93rd Academy Awards telecast has been postponed by two months to April 25, 2021. On the other hand, BAFTA has also been postponed to April 11, 2021. 

Golden Globes, this year, was held on January 5, and days later, HFPA announced that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler would host the 2021 ceremony.
