Lionsgate has released the first trailer for The Personal History of David Copperfield with Dev Patel starring as the titular character. The film is directed by Armando Iannucci and is adapted from Charles Dickens’ story of the same name. The screenplay has been co-written by Iannucci and Simon Blackwell.
The Personal History of David Copperfield tells the story of Dickens’ most famous character giving the tale a new modern age spin with a diverse ensemble cast. Iannucci’s and Blackwell’s story shows Copperfield’s playful spirit traverse through poverty and opulence. He is shown as a young, orphaned, budding writer who befriends a coterie of eccentric characters on a remarkable journey of love, acceptance and self-discovery in 19th century England.
Patel looks perfect in the role of Copperfield. The film also stars Tilda Swinton, Hugh Laurie, Peter Capaldi, Ben Whishaw, Paul Whitehouse, Aneurin Barnard, Daisy May Cooper, Morfydd Clark, Benedict Wong, Gwendoline Christie, Anthony Welsh, and Rosalind Eleazar. The Personal History of David Copperfield is slated to release in the UK on January 10, 2020.
