The Matrix: Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss to reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity in fourth instalment of the sci-fi film

Rumours surrounding a new Matrix film have been swirling practically since the third installment — The Matrix Revolutions — released in 2003. Earlier this year, John Wick: Chapter 3 director Chad Stahelski ignited the rumours yet again when he hinted that Wachowski sisters were working on the fourth installment in the popular sci-fi action franchise. Now adding to the excitement, we hear that Warner Bros is indeed coming back with the fourth film in the Matrix series with original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss reprising their iconic roles as Neo and Trinity,

What's more? Lana Wachowski will write, direct and produce the latest installment of the hugely popular series. “We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana,” said Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich, as quoted by an international news agency. Announcing the news, Toby added, "Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe.”

Lana, on the other hand, shared her excitement by saying, "Many of the ideas Lilly (her sister who co-directed and co-wrote the original three films) and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I'm very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends."

The original film turns 20 this year and was about humans trapped in a virtual reality by machines. The dark fantasy featured Keanu's Neo as a hero on a mission to save mankind.
