Recently, Game of Thrones actor Maisie Williams took to her official Twitter to address the on-going controversy surrounding her character Arya Stark's sex scene in the latest episode of the hit show.
Maisie assured fans that she understands their discomfort at seeing her character naked as most viewers still perceive Arya as the 11-year-old-child at the start of the show (But she is 18+) ! The young actress even added that much to her shock, her entire family had also seen the infamous scene.

Maisie's tweet has been liked almost 505,00 times in which she wrote, “If you feel uncomfortable just know that my mother and my stepdad and my two sisters and my four brothers have all probably watched this too ahahakillmeehehe.”

Even though the scene was supposed to emphasize the last minute desperation felt by the show's characters before their probable imminent death, fans took to social media to share their horror of having seen Arya's character in such a light, especially because they have seen her grow up before their eyes. In an interview, Maisie even revealed that at first, she thought the scene was a prank when she read the script, adding, “I was like, ‘Yo, good one.’ And [the showrunners were] like, ‘No, we haven’t done that this year.’ Oh f**k!”.
Actor Joe Dempsie, who plays Gendry in the show, admitted that filming the scene was uncomfortable. He said, “It’s obviously slightly strange for me because I’ve known Maisie since she was 11, 12 years old. At the same time, I don’t want to be patronizing toward Maisie — she’s a 20-year-old woman. So we just had a lot of fun with it.”
This is not the first time a sex scene has caused controversy amongst Game of Thrones fans. The show is known to delve into issues like rape, incest and more. The last season of Game of Thrones is currently underway and the next episode will premiere on April 28.
