While there's no guarantee that Game of Thrones will have a happy ending, at least the show can take credit for one happily ever after. Kit Harington and Rose Leslie tied the knot on Saturday with a church service at the Rayne Church in Aberdeenshire and a celebration at the 900-year-old Wardhill Castle in northeast Scotland, which is owned by Leslie’s family.
While Harington wore a morning suit, Leslie was at her happy best in a flowing ivory gown and veil.
Other Game of Thrones stars who also attended the wedding were Peter Dinklage, Masie Williams, Sophie Turner, Richard Madden and Emilia Clarke. (No, there were no Freys. Thank God for that!)
The couple after exchanging their vows drove off in a Land Rover with the 'Just Married' sign on its rear end.
Harington and Leslie met each other in 2012 on the sets of HBO's hit show, Game of Thrones where they played the on-screen couple Jon Snow and Ygritte. Harington told L’Uomo Vogue that the on-screen romance contributed to the pair getting together, after filming in Iceland in 2012.
“The country is beautiful … the Northern Lights are magical … it was there that I fell in love,” he said.
“If you’re already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love," Harington concluded.
Someone chopping onions 'round here or what?
Despite starting their relationship several years ago, they kept it low key and only 'went public' in 2016 at the Olivier Awards. They later announced their engagement in September 2017, via the Times London paper.
The bride’s father, Sebastian Leslie, said Saturday he was “absolutely thrilled” about the wedding. “It’s an absolutely lovely day for us,” he said.
On the work front, Harington will conclude the final season of Game of Thrones next year. Leslie currently stars in U.S. legal drama The Good Fight.
