Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding ceremony proves that fairytales do exist and that dreams do come true. A 15-year-old Meghan once posed in front of the Buckingham Palace, little did the American girl know that at 36, she would marry a Prince and become a Duchess. Two years before, neither of them we bet would have anticipated that a meeting through a common friend would end up in them exchanging vows in front of the royal family and hundreds of guests.
May we take a moment to appreciate Meghan's beautiful bridal couture - a dress by British designer Clare Waight Keller by Givenchy's. Her 16-foot-long veil was held in place by a diamond bandeau tiara lent to her by the Queen. Harry, flanked by his brother and best man Prince William, was dressed in the frockcoat uniform of the Blues and Royals.
But above all of the English nobility, splendid decor, A-list guests, and love-filled air, it was the way these lovebirds, awaiting their union, kept stealing glances at each other, every time restoring our faith in true love. Moreover, from their first kiss as husband and wife, to the walk down the steps of the Chapel to the colloquial royal wave - everything seemed straight out a fairy tale we have all grown up reading and imagining.
This royal wedding, in the words of Priyanka Chopra, stood for change and hope. Harry is 33, Meghan is 36 - age didn't matter. He is a British royal, sixth in line to the throne, while she is a woman of colour, a popular actress - race didn't matter. For the unversed, Meghan was married once before, from 2011 to 2013, to producer Trevor Engelson but love found it's way! This, right here, is what the world needs.
In a departure from tradition, Meghan walked much of the way up the aisle unchaperoned. Markle did not promise to "obey" her husband, while Harry broke with royal tradition by choosing to wear a wedding ring.
It is a marriage to be celebrated, not because two souls loved each other and were unified in a holy matrimony but because in a world full of differences, Meghan and Harry have arrived at their destination, full of hope.
