Pakistani designer Ali Xeesahan faces flak for his anti-dowry campaign for UN Women Pakistan as Twitterati asks - What about expensive lehengas?

They say, fashion is a personal concept and so is its interpretation and we couldn’t agree more. Recently, Pakistani fashion designer Ali Xeeshan collaborated with UN Women Pakistan for an anti-dowry campaign- ‘Numaish.’

Featuring a bruised bride dressed in a bridal trousseau, this collection highlighted the harsh reality of dowry in an artistic way. The model decked up as a traditional bride was seen pulling a cart full of gifts and goods. Taking it to its social media account, UN Women Pakistan shared the post in support of the collaboration. "UN Women Pakistan supports NUMAISH - a pledge against dowry by @ALIXEESHAN. Share this powerful message and join us to #StopDowryMongering #NumaishNaLagao #JahezkhoriBandKaro," read its caption.

Though this collab campaign had nothing but good intentions with respect to the societal injustice, it did not go well with the internet tribe. While many supported this cause, others called out the designer for his ‘pricey lehengas’. While one user advised Ali to ‘stop making bridal dresses worth millions’ said a user, ‘hypocrite’ commented another. Check out the mixed response here.

While the designer or UN Women Pakistan is yet to comment on the above fiasco, what are your thoughts on this one?
