Wait, what? Jennifer Lopez's ICONIC Versace dress is actually made by Mumbai artisans!

2019 had its big moments and one of them has to be Jennifer Lopez's catwalk at Versace's Spring/Summer 2020 showcase at the Milan Fashion Week. Sashaying down the runway in all her glory. JLo took 'em all by a storm as she sported her iconic jungle dress yet again!

But at that point, who would've thought that this very reimpression of the original dress was made by a group of Indian artisans?!

Yes, that's right! It was this group of artisans from Mumbai had sewn the intricate jewels and embellishments on this classic ensemble. While the print is a Versace's creativity, this group of artisans did the rest of the deed.

The Business of Fashion, a fashion-media company raised this question: why would Versace, or similar luxury brands, hide this truth and take away the credit from these local artisans?

Kalyani Saha, the former VP of Dior India, also had something to say about this:

Indian artisans and their handicrafts are popular worldwide. Many European luxury brands associate with these groups of artisans and this isn't a big secret, but these artisans are still not given enough credit for their work.

One reason to do so could be to protect the myth that only Italians and Europeans, majorly, know the art of this craft. But giving these artisans some credit wouldn't hurt, right?

Indians are aggravated by the fact that time-and-again, we have to beg for some sort of acknowledgment by these big names, and ow they effortlessly push our names under the rug every time we ask for due credit.

Well, we hope the revolution in 2020 touches this part of the industry too! What are your thoughts?
