The double standards exist everywhere: New-mum Neha Dhupia recalls the time when her A-list designer friends said ‘we have nothing for you’

Actress Neha Dhupia has always been vocal about embracing motherhood and the postpartum body changes that come along with it. A body-positive advocate in the truest sense, the actress has time and again schooled those who fat-shamed her and set an example for all the mothers out there.

Recently, Neha spoke about the time when she wanted to wear fancy clothes for her friend's wedding but was turned down by many of her A-list designer friends.

In an interview with Filmfare, Neha called out the double standards that are still prevalent in the fashion industry. Soon after I gave birth, I went to a friend's wedding and I wanted to wear fancy clothes and I wasn't fitting into anything and I don't know why I'm telling you this information, but I had so many A-list designers who I had thought were friends of mine who just turned me down saying, 'listen we have nothing for you.' The double standards exist everywhere. But I'm okay man, it's a part of the game. If that's how they want to treat people, that's how they want to do it, it's fine," she said.

Speaking of her pregnancies, Neha revealed that she suffered through postpartum depression for 8 months during her first pregnancy but bounced back quickly during the second one. She also credited the ‘nice designers’ who made clothes for her. "The first time around, I did go through postpartum depression that lasted 8 months. The second time around, I bounced back much faster because I knew what I was going through. And nobody else is here to decide. I had so many designers who were so nice and they were making clothes for me."

Neha tied the knot with her actor husband Angad Bedi in 2018 in a traditional Anand Karaj ceremony. The couple has a daughter, Mehr Dhupia Bedi and recently welcomed their son Guriq in October last year.
