Sabyasachi's Endless Summer: Lutyens' Delhi Collection (Part 1)

There isn't any girl in this country who wouldn't love to be dressed by the ace designer and style maven, Mr. Sabyasachi Mukherjee, especially on their wedding day. After the #Virushka saga, Sabyasachi has pretty much sky-rocketed to the top of our D-day designer wish-list.

When we think about this style beacon and his designs, shades of pinks and reds are the first thing that pop in our mind. But looks like this designer has decided to give us ladies an early gift, by launching his brand new 'Endless Summer' collection. Keeping in mind the summer-y Mumbai heat, it's next to impossible to don a typical velvet Sabya lehenga. No wonder when Mr. Mukherjee comes up with a collection which is not just pleasant to the eyes but also super soothing to slide in, we are happily surprised. If you, like us, loved Anushka's beige classy lehenga with intricate floral detailing, matching the Tuscany breathtaking surrounding, his Luteyns' Delhi edit will go straight to the top of your lust list.

Taking to his Insta handle, the designer described his collection as follows, "Whenever I think of Lutyens’ Delhi with its majestic architecture, I think of dusty summer evenings in pre-independent India. I think of ivory muslins, starched cottons, rich pattern brocades and sumptuous embroidery in swirling gold and silver. I have often wondered why? Is it because of those wonderful Merchant Ivory films that I have grown up watching, is it because living in Calcutta never helps you get rid of your colonial hangover, or is it merely a figment of my imagination, triggered off by some forgotten memory from the past?

...And then I think of the partition. Again and again. Maybe because my father was a partition child. Maybe because my grandmother whispered those tales of survival to all of us gathered around her on sultry summer nights. And I think of the partition again with aching sadness. Men and women scrambling to cross borders, hoarding themselves with all their fineries. Maybe my sense of maximalism stems from the partition and tales of colonial India".

Talking about his collection for the ladies, he adds, "Ladies in muslin, silk and organza clothing, in bleached and unbleached whites splattered with sumptuous gold embroidery. Lavish jewellery from Hyderabad to Lucknow, Bengal to Sindh strung together with uncut diamonds, Basra pearls and 22k gold."

For the men, he states, "All the men are wearing hand-embroidered sherwanis with raw silk churidaars and kota safas from our Spring-Summer 2018 collection."

The style visionary also has answers to all your Mehendi problems, especially for the boys. While it's super-easy for us to pick our Mehendi outfits, it's equally tough for our dearest men. Displaying his Mehendi artwork for the boys, he adds, "Summer afternoon mehendis by the pool. Men in crisp white poplin. Palampore chintz remastered on bleached cotton. Quilted and textured. Very outdoorsy, very refined, very cool."

Be it the silk and oraganza clothing or the royal gold embroidery, and even the Basra pearl beaded statement chokers, we're in love with this surreal collection.

Now all we need is groom to get hitched!
