DIG Vartika Chaturvedi is set to tackle the most harrowing case of her career in the third season of ‘Delhi Crime’ — Netflix India's International Emmy Award-winning police procedural series, acclaimed for its crisp storytelling and sensitive handling of heinous crimes.
PeepingMoon.com has exclusively learned that ‘Delhi Crime Season 3’ is based on the tragic “Baby Falak Case” that shocked India in 2012 due to its brutality and the heartbreaking story of a defenseless child caught in a cycle of abuse and trafficking. The show is unraveling another real-life crime after depicting the crimes of the notorious Kachcha Baniyan gang in the second season and showcasing the aftermath of the infamous 2012 Delhi gang rape in the first season.
In January 2012, a two-year-old girl named Falak was admitted to Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) with severe head injuries, human bite marks, and broken limbs. She was brought to the hospital by a teenage girl claiming to be her mother. Medical staff, alarmed by the extent of Falak’s injuries, immediately suspected foul play and notified authorities. As investigations unfolded, it was revealed that the teenage girl was herself a victim of human trafficking and was caring for Falak under the influence of an adult man who had manipulated and abused both the child and the teenager. Further probes uncovered a large human trafficking network involving child exploitation, forced prostitution, and the sale of women for marriage.
Shefali Shah returns to play Madam Sir Vartika Chaturvedi alongside the series regulars Rasika Dugal, Rajesh Tailang, and Adil Hussain. Together, they set out to investigate this heartbreaking case of child abuse and uncover a vast trafficking network that extends far beyond India's borders. Joining the ensemble is Huma Qureshi, popularly known for her powerful performances in ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, ‘Dedh Ishqiya’, and ‘Maharani’. She will portray Meena, a ruthless trafficker deeply entrenched in the criminal nexus.
Tanuj Chopra, who directed the second season, has helmed this latest installment as well. Written by Tanuj Chopra, Anu Singh Choudhary, Apoorva Bakshi, Michael Hogan, and Mayank Tiwari, the show has finished shooting and is currently in post-production, targeting a late 2025 premiere on Netflix.
