Peeping Moon Exclusive : Sunny Deol gearing up for OTT debut with a Netflix actioner

Sunny Deol, who recently roared at the box office with ‘Jaat’, is now looking at making his OTT debut. PeepingMoon.com has exclusively learned that the ‘Gadar 2’ superstar is in advanced negotiations with Netflix India to headline a high-budget action thriller.

It is reportedly an action-packed thriller aligning with his signature high-octane, action-hero persona. Suparn Varma, renowned for directing ‘The Family Man Season 2’ and ‘Rana Naidu’, will produce this film. This marks Varma’s third production following the critically-lauded ‘Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai’ and an upcoming Yami Gautam and Emraan Hashmi film based on the 1985 Shah Bano case. The director for Deol’s project is yet to be finalized. Discussions are underway with several filmmakers. Including a prominent director who most recently helmed a period drama for Netflix and is currently considered the frontrunner for the job.

Deol is more or less on board, with final formalities being swiftly completed. The film is currently in the writing phase, and production timelines will be determined based on script readiness and Deol’s availability. The Bollywood hero is apparently enthusiastic about this project, as it marks his foray into the streaming sphere after an illustrious career spanning over four decades, during which he delivered numerous box-office blockbusters including ‘Ghayal’, ‘Damini’, and ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’, among many others. Deol is reportedly also exploring the OTT option to release his forthcoming family drama, ‘Safar’. However, no streaming deal has been finalized as of now.

This Netflix action thriller adds a dynamic dimension to Deol’s upcoming lineup. He will next be seen in Rajkumar Santoshi’s historical drama ‘Lahore 1947’, expected to release theatrically in the second half of this year. This will be followed by ‘Border 2’, which is slated for a Republic Day 2026 release. He is also part of Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated mythological epic ‘Ramayana’, in which he will portray Lord Hanuman. The actor also has ‘Soorya’ and ‘Baap’ lined up, but these projects are currently stuck due to unfinished production.
