PeepingMoon Exclusive: Kajol and Prabhu Deva reunite for an action film after 27 years

No one is doing it like Kajol. The 49-year-old Bollywood actress is jumping from one film to another and experimenting with as many different genres as she can, staying relevant in the industry even after three decades. Last seen as a lawyer in Disney+Hotstar’s legal drama series, The Trial, Kajol has three films lined up this year. And her work slate is only getting bigger as she has secured one more new project.

PeepingMoon.com has exclusively learned that Kajol has now signed an action film, co-starring Prabhu Deva in the lead. The plot and other specifics are being kept under strict confidentiality, but the project has already garnered industry attention as it brings back Kajol and Prabhu Deva together on screen after 27 years. They previously worked together in Rajiv Menon’s 1997 Tamil love triangle, Minsara Kanavu, which was a silver jubilee success, running for 216 days in Chennai theatres. The film, co-starring Arvind Swamy, was later also released in a Hindi-dubbed version as Sapnay and is most remembered today for its classic song, Chanda Re.

The yet-untitled film is being directed by National Award-winning Telugu filmmaker Cheran, renowned for directing critically acclaimed movies like Autograph (2004), Vetri Kodi Kattu (2000), and Thavamai Thavamirundhu (2005). A South Indian distributor is said to be producing it, while Jawan fame G.K. Vishnu serves as the cinematographer. The film has apparently already gone on floors and will resume production next month in Mumbai.

Kajol is moving to this project quickly after finishing her career's first-ever horror film, Maa, which was wrapped up just last week and is aiming for a theatrical release later this year. The Prabhu Deva film is the latest addition to Kajol’s impressive lineup, which also includes Netflix's Do Patti with Kriti Sanon and Dharma Productions' Sarzameen with Ibrahim Ali Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Prabhu Deva, meanwhile, will next be seen in Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay’s highly anticipated sci-fi actioner, The Greatest of All Time. Stay tuned to PeepingMoon for more updates on this film.
