PeepingMoon Exclusive: Bobby Deol joined by Sanya Malhotra, Joju George and Saba Azad in Anurag Kashyap’s next; Shooting commenced in Mumbai

Gangs of Wasseypur director Anurag Kashyap has next set up a gritty thriller starring Bobby Deol in the lead, as we revealed last month. The yet-untitled project has now started filming in Mumbai, with three notable actors joining the cast, further increasing the excitement surrounding the film.

Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Sanya Malhotra, Joju George, and Saba Azad have joined the cast of Kashyap’s film to play pivotal roles alongside Deol. Sanya, who previously worked with Deol in Shah Rukh Khan's production Love Hostel, is excited to collaborate with him again in a Kashyap film. This is an impressive addition to her filmography, as she has already worked with esteemed filmmakers such as Vishal Bhardwaj, Nitesh Tiwari, and Ritesh Batra. Joju George is a renowned Malayalam actor and will make his Hindi cinema debut with this movie, while Saba Azad is popularly known for her role in Sony LIV’s hit series, Rocket Boys. All three will play significant characters in the plot centered around Deol's character.

The plot details of the movie have strictly been shrouded in secrecy, but it's believed to be a hard-hitting thriller based on a sensitive true event. Nikhil Dwivedi is producing, while Sudip Sharma, known for NH10, Udta Punjab, Paatal Lok, and Kohrra, has written the script along with Abhishek Banerjee, known for writing Anushka Sharma’s 2018 horror, Pari. The film went on floors on May 14 and will primarily be shot in Mumbai until June 2024, aiming for a theatrical release sometime later this year.

The Anurag Kashyap film is an exciting addition to Bobby Deol’s upcoming illustrious lineup, which already boasts three South Indian and pan-India movies, a web series, and two Bollywood movies. Upon wrapping up the Kashyap thriller, Bobby will begin shooting for Yash Raj Films' first female-led spy thriller starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari. His forthcoming lineup also includes Suriya’s highly anticipated Tamil fantasy epic, Kanguva; Pawan Kalyan's Telugu period actioner, Hari Hara Veera Mallu; Nandamuri Balakrishna's NBK109; Aryan Khan’s debut series, Stardom; and Kunal Kohli’s investigative drama, Desi Sherlock.
