PeepingMoon Exclusive: Ajay Devgn reunites with ‘Maidaan and ‘Shaitaan’ writers for another horror film

Ajay Devgn has effectively revitalized the horror genre with Shaitaan. The Vikas Bahl-directed supernatural thriller has emerged as a success at the box office, grossing over 82 crore in its first week alone, making it the highest-grossing horror film in India to date. Encouraged by its thundering response, Ajay is now venturing into another horror project, this time not as an actor.

PeepingMoon.com has learned that Ajay is teaming up with his Maidaan and Shaitaan writers, Saiwyn Quadras and Aamil Keeyan Khan respectively, for his next production, Maa. Saiwyn has written the story and screenplay for this supernatural thriller, marking his second collaboration with Ajay after the forthcoming Maidaan, while Aamil has penned the dialogues, continuing his association with the superstar following Runway 34, Drishyam 2, Bholaa, and the very recent Shaitaan. Ajay has also brought on board Sandeep Francis to edit this film after their successful collaboration on Drishyam 2 and Shaitaan

Maa is described as an emotional thriller set against the backdrop of horror and stars Ajay Devgn's actress wife Kajol in the lead role, as we revealed exclusively in December. The film is being directed by Vishal Furia, whose previous directorial credits include Nushrratt Bharuccha’s horror drama Chhorii and Vikrant Massey's Forensic. Promising to be a gripping thriller that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats, the film has already gone on floors and is currently being shot in Mumbai. Kajol and the team will apparently head to Kolkata on March 29 for a major schedule before they return to Mumbai again for the final round of shooting. The film is expected to be wrapped up by May.

This production vehicle aside, Ajay has a busy year ahead with four acting projects lined up for release. Still riding high on the success of Shaitaan, the Bollywood superstar will next be seen in the much-awaited sports biopic Maidaan on the Eid weekend next month, followed by Neeraj Pandey’s Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha on April 26. He will return to cinemas again after four months with Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again during the Independence Day weekend, following it with Raid 2 on November 15. He is also set to star in De De Pyaar De 2, which begins production in June for a May 1, 2025 theatrical release.

Kajol, meanwhile, has two exciting films lined up this year, in addition to Maa. She stars alongside Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran and Saif Ali Khan’s debutant son Ibrahim Ali Khan in Dharma Productions' Sarzameen, besides playing a cop in Netflix's Do Patti, a captivating mystery thriller co-starring Kriti Sanon. Kajol was last seen in Disney+Hotstar's 2023 series, The Trial: Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhoka, revolving around a housewife who is forced to take full responsibility for her family after her husband is imprisoned over a corruption and sex scandal.
