PeepingMoon Exclusive: Ajay Devgn to romance Vaani Kapoor in ‘Raid 2’ after Ileana D’Cruz drops out; Saurabh Shukla returns to play Tauji

The 2024 Bollywood calendar is packed with five Ajay Devgn releases. The actor features in Abhishek Kapoor’s yet-untitled period drama in February, Vikas Bahl’s supernatural thriller in March, Neeraj Pandey’s Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha in April, and Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again in August. Adding to this exciting lineup, Ajay also announced Raid 2 on Saturday, scheduling it for theatrical release on November 15.

And now, PeepingMoon.com has exclusively learned that Vaani Kapoor is the new leading lady in Raid 2. The gorgeous actress, known for her commendable performances in films like Shudh Desi Romance and Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, will reportedly play the role of Ajay Devgn’s wife in this crime drama.

Ileana D’Cruz, who essayed Devgn’s wife in the first installment, is believed to have passed on the project to focus on her personal life. Vaani, who has already joined the sets and is set to film her portions in Mumbai over the next few days, will provide the extra zing to Raid 2 with fresh chemistry with Ajay.

Raid 2 is said to be the continuation of the first part, with Ajay Devgn returning as IRS officer Amay Patnaik to unravel another intriguing case. The sequel, however, is a fictional story, unlike the 2018 film, which was reportedly based on the real-life, three-day, two-night income-tax raid on Sardar Inder Singh in the 1980s. The main villain hasn’t been locked yet, but Saurabh Shukla returns to play Tauji, upping the thrill in the plot. The film has been written by Raj Kumar Gupta, Ritesh Shah, Jaydeep Yadav, and Karan Vyas.

Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak, Abhishek Pathak, and Krishan Kumar, Raid 2 is one of the highly-anticipated sequels coming out this year. The film went on the floors on Saturday for an eight -day schedule in Mumbai and will be shot extensively in March. It is scheduled to be shot mostly in Mumbai, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
