Peeping Moon Exclusive: Alia Bhatt in talks with Hansal Mehta for a biopic of a news presenter

Never one to rest on her laurels, Alia Bhatt is busy lining up her slate for 2024. And, PeepingMoon.com has exclusively learned that is as exciting as it is promising. The remarkable actress has much to be proud about. She has done extremely well for herself over the last two years. In 2022, Alia had four hit films starting with Gangubai Kathiawadi and then continuing with RRR, Darlings and Brahmastra.

Her sole theatrical release this year, Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, was a huge success, amassing over 355 crore at the global box office. Her Hollywood debut in Netflix’s Heart of Stone, alongside Gal Gadot and Jamie Dornan, was another feather in Alia’s cap.

Now as 2023 comes to an end, PeepingMoon.com has learned that Alia is discussing a biopic with Hansal Mehta who is known for directing critically acclaimed films like Shahid, City Lights, Aligarh and the popular web series Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story.

The conversation at this moment is at a nascent stage, and although Alia hasn’t committed yet, she has shown a strong interest in this project. If Alia agrees to star in the film, she will play the role of a news presenter. Alia and Hansal have been discussing their possible collaboration for months, and things seem to have been progressing positively thus far.

If everything falls into place, they will take the film on floors in the second half of 2024, immediately after finishing their current commitments. Alia is presently shooting for Vasan Bala’s jailbreak drama, Jigra, and is then expected to shoot for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s long-in-the-making Baiju Bawra. She also has Yash Raj Films’ first female spy movie, supposed to roll in the middle of next year. The timeline for Hansal’s film is dependent on her schedule.

Meanwhile, Hansal is deeply involved in the pre-production of his ambitious web series on Mahatma Gandhi, starring Pratik Gandhi in the titular role. The show goes on floors next month and is expected to be wrapped up by June 2024. He is also awaiting the release of his next feature film, The Buckingham Murders, a crime thriller starring Kareena Kapoor Khan as a grieving British-Indian detective who is assigned the case of a murdered child in Buckingham.
