PeepingMoon Exclusive: Shershaah director Vishnuvardhan returns to Tamil cinema for his next; signs his second Hindi film with Dharma Productions

Shershaah director Vishnuvardhan does not adhere to a trend. The filmmaker has returned to his roots when it was anticipated that he would sign major Bollywood films following the enormous success of Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani's biographical war drama. Peepingmoon.com has exclusively learned that Vishnuvardhan is next directing a Tamil film, and he has already started shooting for it in Chennai.

The project in question is an untitled romantic drama and marks the acting debut of Eetti and Boomerang actor Atharvaa’s brother, Akash Murali. Veteran filmmaker S. Shankar’s daughter, Aditi Shankar, who made her debut with Karthi’s Viruman last year, plays the leading lady, while Vijay’s Master producer XB Film Creators is bankrolling the film. "Vishnuvardhan had committed to this project even before his debut Hindi film Shershaah released and became the most-streamed film on Amazon Prime Video. The movie finally went on floors last month after a number of delays since its announcement in 2021. It’s an out-and-out commercial entertainer with romance as the backdrop and is being made on a big scale for a theatrical release later this year," a source close to the development told us.

Sources have also revealed that Vishnuvardhan has already signed his second Hindi film and will start working on it soon after completing his Tamil film. Known for helming South Indian films like Billa, Panjaa, and Arrambam, the director will next make a massive action drama for Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, continuing his Shershaah partnership with the top Bollywood banner. The project is currently in the writing stage and is expected to get off the ground in the third quarter of this year. A big Hindi film star is supposed to headline this project, planned to be mounted on par with Hollywood standards.

The director has also committed to Siddharth Roy Kapur’s Roy Kapur Films to make a sweeping multi-season epic action drama series that will tell the story of an integral part of India’s 20th-century military history. However, the project is at a very early stage at this moment and might not happen until mid-next year. Stay tuned as we provide more information on the newest Bollywood offerings.
