PeepingMoon Exclusive: Dinesh Vijan's Horror Comedy Universe: Bunty Aur Babli 2 actress Sharvari Wagh to play Munjha

In 2019, Dinesh Vijan announced Munjha as the third film in his proposed "Horror-Comedy Universe". It was supposed to be a follow-up to Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Stree and Janhvi Kapoor’s Roohi, but was indefinitely postponed after the COVID-19 pandemic. The project has since gone through a complete overhaul with lots of changes in the script and characterization to properly place it in the planned universe of horror comedies. Cut to three years later, Munjha is ready to see the light of day. Peepingmoon.com has learned that Dinesh Vijan’s Munjha is finally happening and has already gone on floors.

Industry sources have informed us Munjha has started rolling, with Sharvari Wagh starring in the lead. The Bunty Aur Babli 2 actress plays the titular character in this quirky horror drama, joining the likes of Shraddha, Janhvi, and Varun Dhawan, who headlined the previous movies of this one-of-a-kind universe of horror comedies. Munjha is the fourth standalone film in this universe, which aspires to have the films cross each other’s paths at a later stage. "Munjha is a separate film, but its plot is connected to Stree. The details of the storyline are not revealed, but Munjha is expected to meet Roohi and other characters at some point in the film. It was earlier supposed to be a proper prequel to Stree, but the makers have now tweaked the script, introducing a new character altogether. The film also marks a new, exciting beginning for Sharvari, who has only done two films: YRF’s Bunty Aur Babli 2 and the yet-to-be-released Maharaja opposite Aamir Khan’s son Junaid. Headlining a film solely so early in her career speaks volumes about her craft, and the makers believe she is going to surpass everyone’s expectations with Munjha," a source close to the development told us.

Munjha is said to be based on folklore and will pave the way for the first proper crossover in Stree 2, which is set to begin filming in the first half of this year. Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik, the masterminds behind this horror-comedy cinematic universe, are constantly working towards offering the viewers a never-seen-before world with their upcoming quirky movies that are interconnected with each other, and Munjha is supposed to be a new step towards the expansion. The film will soon be announced with a motion poster.
