PeepingMoon Exclusive: Kiara Advani teams up with Karthik Calling Karthik director Vijay Lalwani for a solo lead film

There has been no looking back for Kiara Advani since the blockbuster success of Kabir Singh. Although she was first noticed in Sushant Singh Rajput’s MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, it was this Shahid Kapoor-starring Arjun Reddy remake that catapulted her popularity across the nation. The actress has since then been on the radar of every Bollywood filmmaker, and the back-to-back success of films like Good Newwz, Shershaah, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, and Jug Jugg Jeeyo has further established her as one of the most sought-after actresses in Bollywood today. Taking a step further in her career, Kiara is now looking for projects that see her headlining the narrative, in contrast to the ones where she plays a mere love interest to a hero.

Peepingmoon.com has learned that Kiara Advani wants to broaden her horizons as an actor going forward and is picking films that star her in a strong lead role, in addition to the commercial projects with big stars she has widely been known for. Kiara has already signed one such film, and we heard it’s with Karthik Calling Karthik director Vijay Lalwani. The film is said to be a heist thriller and has tentatively been titled Lamb. The plot and character details of the film are unknown yet, but we heard it will see Kiara playing a role she hasn’t explored before. It’s also expected to feature an ensemble cast in supporting roles; however, no one has been finalized for that as we report this development.

Kiara Advani is committed to starting this film around February next year. She is currently filming Satyaprem Ki Katha with Kartik Aaryan and will then move to shoot her remaining portions in S. Shankar’s RC15. She is then expected to take a break for her wedding with Sidharth Malhotra, and only after that will she kick off Lamb. The director Vijay Lalwani is also expected to be ready by that time, as he is currently putting the finishing touches on his next film, Empire. For those unaware, Empire is an edge-of-the-seat thriller revolving around a father-daughter relationship and stars Taapsee Pannu, Arvind Swami, Kumud Mishra, and Govind Namdev in the lead.

The Kiara Advani-Vijay Lalwani film will be produced by Niraj Kothari and Sarita A. Tanwar’s banner, 11:11 Productions. The Mumbai-based production company, which has previously produced Zee5 shows Broken But Beautiful and Never Kiss Your Best Friend, is now venturing into feature film production, and Lamb will mark its second project on that front. Their debut feature film, Blackout, starring Vikrant Massey and Nora Fatehi, is finished and eyeing an OTT release next year. For Kiara Advani, Lamb will be her third "solo lead" film after the Netflix drama Guilty and Nikkhil Advani’s social comedy, Indoo Ki Jawani. She is presently awaiting the release of her next film, Govinda Naam Mera, slated to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on December 16. The Shashank Khaitan-directed romantic comedy stars her alongside Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar.
