PeepingMoon Exclusive: Vijay Deverakonda shifts his focus to Kushi and Jana Gana Mana post Liger's box office failure

For the past few weeks, Vijay Deverakonda has been headlong into the promotion of Liger. The Telugu star has been visiting multiple cities, malls, and temples and is leaving no stone unturned to promote his debut Pan-India film on every possible platform. With the Puri Jagannadh-directed boxing drama finally out in theatres for public viewing, it’s time Deverakonda moves on and focuses on his other projects. Peepingmoon.com has learned that the Arjun Reddy actor will get back to work in the second week of September.

"Vijay Deverakonda is distraught by the underperformance of Liger at the box office. Contrary to high expectations, the film has turned out to be an utter disappointment for audiences and critics alike, with the latter outrightly rejecting and terming it as one of the worst Pan-India films coming out this year. A box office flop like this is a big blow to Deverakonda’s filmography. However, he knows the failure is just a temporary detour and not a dead end. He is cognizant of the fact that it’s the courage to continue that will change the fate of his career going forward. Deverakonda is taking a small break to free himself from the Liger fiasco before he resumes shooting for Shiva Nirvana’s multilingual, Kushi with Samantha Ruth Prabhu next month," a source close to the actor told us. Kushi is a romantic comedy, billed as an explosion of happiness, laughter, love and family bonding, which will be released in cinemas on December 3.

It’s said to be the final schedule of Kushi, after which Deverakonda will head to Puri Jagannadh’s Jana Gana Mana (JGM). A massive three-month schedule has been planned in Morocco for this Pan-India action entertainer set against a military backdrop. "Vijay, Pooja Hegde, and Nassar will fly to Morocco at the end of September to film some never-seen-before war sequences and high-octane, VFX-heavy action scenes. Hollywood stunt coordinator Cedric Proust—known for his work in films like Inception, Dunkirk, and Black Widow—has been brought on board to design a prolonged war sequence. The makers have planned a crazy, action-packed three-month schedule to shoot this film on a grand scale, "the source further said, adding that it’s the film’s third schedule after the two previous short stints in Mumbai and Rajasthan.

Jana Gana Mana is a military action film that will see Vijay Deverakonda playing the role of an army officer. The film, defined as Puri Jagannadh’s passion project of gigantic scale, content, and execution, is scheduled to be released on Independence Day weekend next year.
