Exclusive: Pooja Hegde not in Rohit Shetty's Sooryavanshi opposite Akshay Kumar

It’s utter nonsense that Bollywood starlet Pooja Hegde has just been signed by filmmaker Rohit Shetty for his next big cop film Sooryavanshi starring Akshay Kumar. PeepingMoon.com has it on authority from sources in the Sooryavanshi camp that no such thing has happened. And it’s not even on the cards. Rohit and Akshay have not got around to casting for the film yet. Sooryavanshi will go on the floors in April. After Akshay winds up the two projects he has on hand: R. Balki’s Mission Mangal and Karan Johar’s Good News. So there is still time for them to look for a lead actress.

But yes, a buzz has certainly been created that Pooja Hegde has been roped in for the role. And perhaps spread over social media and selected Bollywood press by her PR agent. There can be only two reasons for this misinformation campaign. One, to generate much-needed publicity for the young actress. Two, to slyly sow the idea in the filmmaker’s mind. It just might be that the penny drops and Rohit could consider Pooja (after all the hype) for the role when the time comes. But PeepingMoon.com sources suggest this story being leaked in the media could only have served to displease the filmmaker.

Sooryavanshi is going to be one of 2019’s biggest and most-anticipated films. It is a continuation of Rohit’s dream to build a cop world of superheroes in Bollywood just as Hollywood has its Avengers. And after the thumping box office success of his film Simmba which released on December 28, in which Ranveer Singh plays the cop, and which followed Rohit’s earlier successful cop franchiseSingham, Bollywood fans and trade pundits are anxious for the pairing of the filmmaker with superstar Akshay.

The actor will be returning to the screen as a cop after a long time. He was last seen in this action role in Prabhu Deva’s 2012 box office hit Rowdy Rathore. Pooja Hegde, a former Miss India finalist, has done only one Bollywood film so far – Ashutosh Gowariker’s Mohenjo Daro in 2016 opposite Hrithik Roshan which was a flop. She will be seen next in Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 4. Which appears to be leverage enough to promote her into Sooryavanshi opposite Akshay or so Pooja’s PR person perhaps believes.
