Kajol’s command over Marathi has got her a cameo in Ajay Devgn’s Taanaji!

She was busy with her own release earlier this month, the Pradeep Sarkar-directed Helicopter Eela in which she plays a single mother with a midlife crisis, so we did not bother too much about other projects that Kajol was acting in. But now sources have confirmed to PeepingMoon.com that the rumour of her starring in hubby Ajay Devgn’s biopic Taanaji – The Unsung Warrior, is indeed true.

Kajol has a role to play in the period action drama being directed by Om Raut and in all probability, it will be the wife of the heroic Koli warrior Tanaji Malusare of the Maratha empire. This is believed to be Ajay’s decision. The husband and wife, who completed 19 years of marriage in February, were last seen together on screen in the 2010 animated action comedy Toonpur Ka Super Hero.

Earlier, Kajol and Ajay had acted in films like Hulchul (1995), Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (1998), Raju Chacha (2000) and U Me Aur Hum (2008). When Ajay was asked why Kajol and he did not feature in Bollywood films together any more, he diplomatically replied, “A routine love story may not be the ideal script for us at this stage because we’ve been married for two decades.”

Now PeepingMoon.com has learned that Ajay has found the right love story for Kajol and him to be seen together again. Her role in Taanaji is a small one, but very impactful. And though it’s a war film, Taanaji focuses a lot on the Koli warrior’s relationship with his wife. The reason why Ajay, who is producing the film, has cast Kajol because of her command over Marathi.

Ajay will be seen in three biopics soon. Apart from Taanaji, they include Neeraj Pandey’s Chanakya and Amit Sharma’s biopic based on the life of Syed Abdul Rahim, India’s football coach between 1951 and 1962. Taanaji Malusare was a military leader in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s army who got killed in the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670 AD. The film has been locked for release in September 2019 and is being made with heavy reliance on VFX work.
