PeepingMoon Exclusive: Vidyut Jammwal steps into the shoes of Denzel Washington for Sanak!

Vidyut Jammwal announced his next action extravaganza, Sanak: Hope Under Siege just today on the occasion of Republic Day. The film that marks Jammwal's fifth collaboration with producer Vipul Shah after his debut film Force (2014) and the action-packed Commando franchise also stars Bengali actress Rukmini Maitra, Chandan Roy Sanyal and Neha Dhupia in pivotal roles. Kanishk Verma who directed Gulshan Devaiah starrer Foot Fairy last year is helming the project, backed by Vipul Shah's Sunshine Pictures in association with Zee Studios. While the makers have released four posters to announce the film they have been tight-lipped about the plot and characters.

Now, Peepingmoon.com has learned that Sanak is an emotional story of a desperate father who takes drastic measures to save his son. "Sanak is an action-thriller revolving around a lone hero who fights overwhelming odds in a restricted environment. It's the official remake of Denzel Washington's critically-acclaimed 2002 Hollywood film John Q. The film has already gone on floors in Mumbai and will be completed by mid-March to hit cinemas in the second half of this year," said a source close to the project.

Stepping into the shoes of Washington, Vidyut Jammwal will play the role of a father whose nine-year-old son is in desperate need of a life-saving transplant. When he discovers that his medical insurance won't cover the costs of the surgery and alternate government aid is not available, he takes a hospital emergency room hostage in a last-ditch attempt to save his child. Bengali actress Rukmini Maitra who makes her Bollywood debut with this film will play Jammwal's wife while the character details of other actors haven't been revealed yet. The makers are believed to have made some necessary changes in the Hindi adaptation to suit the sensibilities of the local audiences.

Jammwal who's recently seen in the long-delayed Mahesh Manjrekar revenge drama The Power is expected to wrap Sanak by mid-March before jumping into Khuda Hafiz Chapter 2 in April 2021. The sequel to the Faruk Kabir directorial is said to be more of a potent and heartfelt love story about how the leading characters come to terms with what has happened to them.
