Confirmed: Kangana Ranaut's next with Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, based on Kabaddi, is titled Panga

It's confirmed, folks. Kangana Ranaut and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari are collaborating for a new film, titled Panga and the actress will begin work on it after wrapping her current project, Mental Hai Kya. Panga is a sports drama since it is based on Kabaddi and will be shot primarily in north India.

With Panga, Ashwiny appears to be following her husband, filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari's footsteps as she will be experimenting with a sports-based film - a subject that Nitesh has already mastered with the 2016 blockbuster Dangal. Starring Aamir Khan in the lead role, Dangal, a sports drama, cast Aamir as Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat. Sports, thus, appears to be a common field of interest between Ashwiny and Nitesh.

Kangana, meanwhile, stars in the principal role in Panga while the film spans across her journey from her teenage to marriage. She loves Kabaddi and her passion for the sport is what forms the crux of Panga’s plot. Pre-production has commenced as well.

After completing Mental Hai Kya, Kangana will start preparing for her role in Panga in order to understand the nuances of her character. Jassi Singh, best known for his role in 2008’s Jodhaa Akbar, will star as Kangana’s husband in the film. Neena Gupta will also feature in Panga.

Ashwiny made her debut as a director with the 2016 film Nil Battey Sannata, starring Swara Bhasker in the lead role. Nil Battey Sannata impressed critics following which Ashwiny also directed its Tamil version Amma Kanakku.

In 2017, Ashwiny directed Bareilly Ki Barfi, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Kriti Sanon and Rajkummar Rao in the principal roles. Audiences, as well as critics, appraised the film while Ashwiny won the Filmfare Award for Best Director as well.

Kangana, in the meantime, is occupied with several projects. She recently wrapped the London schedule of Mental Hai Kya, which co-stars Rajkummar Rao. Apart from Mental Hai Kya, she will also be seen in Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi.
