KJo to direct reunion song only in SOTY 2 with Alia, Varun and Siddharth

Ex-students Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra are going to return to St. Teresa College in the much-anticipated sequel to Dharma Productions’ 2012 super hit Student of The Year. Shooting for the second part, featuring Tiger Shroff with newcomers Tara Sutaria and Ananya Panday, has already begun at the same location in Dehradun where SOTY was made. And Alia, Varun and Siddharth, who made their respective Bollywood debuts with the rom-com-drama, are being roped in by producer-director Karan Johar to add sparkle to SOTY 2.

While SOTY 2 is being helmed by Punit Malhotra, PeepingMoon.com has learned that like his three lead actors from the first film, KJo is going to be playing a sort of cameo role in the sequel. What the master showman of the rom-com-drama genre will do is exclusively direct a song only featuring Alia, Varun and Siddharth in SOTY 2. Then Karan will step back and let Punit take over the film with Tiger, Tara and Ananya. Sources say that the Dharma Productions’ bossman, whose last Bollywood directorial was Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in 2016, is keen on directing the three actors who made SOTY the highest grossing Bollywood film of 2012.

The song featuring Alia, Varun and Siddharth will be at the start of SOTY 2. And it will be a reunion scene at St. Teresa College to which the three ex-students who graduated in 2012 are returning. Incidentally in April, KJo directed four ad films for Dharma 2.0. This is the young and zippy venture of his Dharma Productions dedicated to making ads for TV using the aesthetics and professionalism of filmmaking. The ads were made for the Jio IPL Twenty20 cricket extravaganza and were spearheaded by Akash Ambani, the elder son of Nita and Mukesh Ambani, who is the Chief of Strategy of the 4G service provider. KJo directed them because the face and heartbeat of the Jio IPL ads was Deepika Padukone.
