Now that the excitement of the grand Virushka wedding reception in Mumbai is over, the media’s focus has shifted to where Bollywood’s bold and beautiful will be bringing in 2018. Again, after Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli, the most happening couple in B-Town is Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. According to sources, Deepika and Ranveer are heading to the Maldives Islands where they will celebrate the New Year with as much of a romantic holiday as a much-needed break from the stressful (and controversial) schedule of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati that the actors have been through in 2017. It is not yet known which of the luxury beach resorts of the archipelago nation Deepika and Ranveer have chosen to stay at. But, given that each resort occupies an entire coral island and has its own beach, blue lagoon and rocky reef in which stand wooden villas on stilts, the Bollywood couple are guaranteed privacy as the welcome 2018.
Maldives is the favourite holiday destination of Deepika’s Piku co-star Amitabh Bachchan. The actor was there in October last to bring in his 75th birthday with his family. When Deepika and Ranveer are not making up for opportunities lost on the sets of Padmavati (remember, Bhansali said in his period drama the Rani Padmavati does not romance the brutal conqueror Allaudin Khilji), they can indulge in adventure sports in the great outdoors. All Maldivian resorts offer snorkeling, night fishing, sailing and windsurfing, also scuba diving because the underwater world in Maldives is fascinating for its sea life and coral.
The other advantage of holidaying in Maldives is that it is out of bounds for the invasive Mumbai paparazzo. That is why most Bollywood stars wanting fans back home to know what a rollicking time they are having choose to share holiday pictures on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
