Exclusive- Ranveer causes 'Khalli Balli' on the dance floor

Forget Ghoomar. The next song Sanjay Leela Bhansali plans to put out from his December release Padmavati is one featuring Ranveer Singh. It’s called Khalli Balli. Or Khalli Walli in Arabic, which means “Who cares!” Sources from the sets of Padmavati have told Peeping Moon.com that this number is bigger and better than any song from Bhansali’s earlier films. Not even Malhari from Bajirao Mastani which was also featured on Ranveer compares to Khalli Balli.

Khalli Balli is a celebratory song revolving around Ranveer’s antagonistic character Allaudin Khilji in Padmavati. Bhansali shot it with more than 200 dancers. However, Ranveer is merely a spectator in Khalli Balli, the singing and dancing is done by others. He will perform a few signature moves that, sources say, proved to be a challenge for the otherwise versatile actor. Choreographer Ganesh Acharya wanted to wrap it up in two takes. But Bhansali, always the perfectionist, stubbornly insisted that on ten retakes of Khalli Balli before he okayed Ranveer’s dance.

Sources say that Ranveer’s performance as Allaudin Khilji takes the actor into an unchartered territory. He will be in a never before seen avatar in Padmavati. And though Ranveer does not actually set the dance floor afire this time as he did in Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela with Tattad Tattad and Bajirao Mastani with Malhari, Bhansali is hoping that the actor takes Khalli Balli into stratosphere and makes it a chartbuster too.

Like Ghoomar featuring Deepika Padukone, this track will also be released digitally followed by a contest. While Bhansali is known to go all out to promote his films, this is for the first time the director has chosen to promote a film digitally due to his tight schedule. Bhansali has been busy shooting round the clock and can’t even spend a day for launches, sources said. But soon the actors will start promoting the film at all levels.
