There's no stopping for Anushka Sharma. The COVID-19 lockdown might have halted her shooting plans but she's still working and developing a series of projects for her banner, Clean Slate Filmz. The day her first production web-series Pataal Lok drops on Amazon Prime Video, Peepingmoon.com has learnt that Anushka has locked the lead cast for her next web project!
Anushka has roped in popular Television and film actress Sakshi Tanwar to play the central character in her next Netflix series, Mai. Sakshi will be playing a 47-year-old middle-class woman who leads a double life of a don. She is believed to be playing the most challenging role of her career in this crime-thriller series. Sakshi will be accompanied by Parineeta and Manorama Six Feet Under fame actress Raima Sen who has already worked with her in Ekta Kapoor's C Kkompany (2008). The show is also said to have an ensemble supporting cast but their names aren't being revealed for the time being.
Mai tells the story of a docile middle-aged wife and mother, Sheel who finds herself suddenly sucked into a rabbit hole of violence and power when she accidentally kills a notorious mafia leader. As her cult grows, she is pulled further into the criminal and political underworld.
Billed as Anushka Sharma's yet another clutter-breaking, powerful story led by a strong female protagonist, Mai is being directed by Atul Mongia from the screenplay by Tamel Sen and Amita Vyas. The show reportedly went on floors in March this year in Lucknow but was soon halted due to the sudden nationwide lockdown caused by Coronavirus pandemic.
This is Anushka's third web production after Amazon Prime's Paatal Lok and yet-to-release Netflix period-drama Bulbul that looks at the age-old beliefs and superstitions.
