Exclusive: Kareena Kapoor Khan kicks off Bollywood festive season with Christmas dinner tonight

Shashi Kapoor used to traditionally hold a Christmas lunch at home for the large and extended Kapoor family every year. After he passed away, his elder son Kunal took up the practice. But somehow, his didn’t pack the same punch as his father’s celebrations. So this year, Kareena Kapoor Khan has taken it upon herself to host a Christmas Eve dinner at home tonight.

It will be a warm and cozy affair attended by friends intimate to the actress and her husband Saif Ali Khan. Their son Taimur will not be present throughout. After accepting wishes and posing for photographs, Taimur will retire for the night but keep an eye and ear open for Santa Claus. The couple then leave for their annual skiing vacation to Gstaad in the Swiss Alps. Bollywood’s season of happy holidays was kick-started last weekend by superstar Hrithik Roshan who also left on a skiing trip with ex-wife Sussanne Khan and their growing sons Hrehaan and Hridhaan.

Taking off soon from the city will also be Bollywood’s dreamy couple Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor. Their romance began on New Year’s eve in Israel where the they had gone with Brahmastra director Ayan Mukerji on a recce in the last week of December 2017. Now the talented, attractive and likable actors are bringing in the New Year and their third year of togetherness in Thailand. This is their first trip there as a couple. PeepingMoon.com has learned that Alia and Ranbir will start in Phuket and then probably explore the rest of Thailand.

Siddharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani, who are Bollywood’s new couple, will be going to South Africa for the year end. The young actors were always rumoured to be an on-off couple but with this holiday, their relationship is cemented and out in public. Also going to South Africa with his family will be Akshay Kumar. The Bollywood superstar who has had the maximum hits this year and stands No. 4 in the world’s list of highest paid entertainers, will leave on Saturday after the release of his family comedy-drama Good Newwz. Varun Dhawan, who is looking forward to the January release of his film Street Dancer, and beau Natasha Dalal are also taking a skiing holiday in Switzerland.

But all of Bollywood is not celebrating Christmas and New Year abroad. There are actors like Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh who are staying put in Mumbai for the festive season. They cannot afford to take off because Deepika has begun promotions for the release of her January 10 biographical Chhappak. Director Meghna Gulzar is keen that her film gets as much mileage as possible in the countdown to the release because it opens alongside Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji and South legend Rajnikant’s Darbar. Ananya Panday and Kartik Aaryan, Bollywood’s other cute couple who are celebrating the success of their film Pati Patni Aur Woh among other things, are also bringing in New Year in Mumbai. Shah Rukh Khan will be here with wife Gauri and their kids Aaryan, Suhana and AbRam, too. And there’s Malaika Arora, who always spends Christmas at home with her parents and sister, who has no plans yet to take off on another holiday with Arjun Kapoor.
